Elizabeth Baier is a general assignment reporter at Minnesota Public Radio in St. Paul. Before switching gears to radio, she worked at two newspapers in South Florida covering a variety of topics, from municipal news to minority issues to crime. She has degrees in journalism and international relations, speaks three languages, and can work in print, photography, radio, or video for the Web.

Cover breaking news for MPR's website and provide spots and short audio material for hourly newscasts. Coordinate with radio editors and reporters working in the field on a daily basis. Build a network of sources on beats traditionally not covered by public radio, including police and fire. Monitor websites and social media sites of regional news outlets.  Pitch, write, edit and mix radio stories. Freelance additional radio and print pieces outside of work hours.

Covered a variety of topics as a city desk reporter, including local government, minority issues, general assignments and breaking news in print, audio and video formats for the newspaper, its website and radio partner, WXEL. Stories included migrant workers who refuse to go to hurricane shelters for fear of deportation and an exclusive hospital interview with one of three homeless men brutally attacked in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Coverage of Hurricane Wilma placed the paper as a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize for breaking news.
